Advanced Audio Edit re-cut.

Creating music by cutting up audio recordings into small pieces then re-assembling them has had a long history in electronic music.  Famous works include Gesang Der Junglinge by Karlheinz Stockhausen.   There are even entire approaches to music involving cutting audio recordings, for example music concète.

These examples come from a classical or high-art aesthetic of music creation.  But they are not alone.  Popular music of the late 20th and early 21st century also employed the use of fine edits to create new music with older recordings.  Nate Harrison wrote about the use and re-use of the Amen break in his 2004 work: Can I Get An Amen?

For this lab experiment you will use a segment of audio only 6 seconds long.   To get everyone starting at the same place, lets all use the Amen Break.  You can search for this on google, or likely download it directly Amen break download. …or download here.

By cutting this sound and only using this sound,  create a compelling 30 to 45 second musical piece.   You may not use any synthesizers, or audio effect plugins, you may only use this audio file,  editing and pitch shifting.

Post your creation to your class soundcloud page and post the link to this form.
